St. Margarets Bus Station (Leicester)
St. Margarets is Leicesters major bus station, and is situated in the City Centre, in Gravel Street and running alongside Burleys Way, part of the city's inner ring road.
It was built in the 1980s, and took the place of an earlier series of bus stops.
Many local bus services, as well as coach excursions organised by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby and other companies, depart from St. Margaret's.
Among the places to which frequent bus services run from St. Margarets are Ashby-de-la-Zouch; Birstall; Blaby; Coventry; Hinckley; Kibworth; Loughborough; Lutterworth; Market Bosworth; Market Harborough; Mountsorrel; Quorn; Rothley; Rugby; Shepshed; Uppingham; and Wigston Magna.
It is also used by National Express for long distance coach journeys to London and other cities across the country.
St. Margarets is a well-appointed bus station, with a cafe, toilets, shop and waiting room, as well as a ticket office for National Express and another for the Skills coach company.
Already one of the best bus stations in the country, it has had a major programme of refurbishment and modernisation in 2006.
It is named after St. Margarets Church across the road. Also named after this church was the St. Margarets brand of ladies clothing sold by Marks and Spencer. The factory owner, William Corah, was a worshipper at the church.
