Captain Cook Country Tour (A Coach Trip in Yorkshire)

The “Captain Cook Country Tour” is one of the Coach Trips devised and led by the well-known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These excursions are an enjoyable way of learning some Local History.

The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester at 8am, and is expected back about 9.30pm.

This is a tour around places in North Yorkshire associated with the great mariner Captain James Cook.

Colin will be giving his usual commentary along the way.

There are three stops, of about an hour each, and a chance to see some of the coast and countryside with which Cook would have been familiar.

The first stop is at Marton, on the outskirts of Middlesbrough. This is where Cook was born, in what is now a lovely country park. There is an excellent museum.

Then Staithes, a village on the coast, which is reminiscent of some of the Cornish fishing villages, such as Polperro and Mevagissey.

And then finally Whitby, the historic town on the coast where Cook was apprenticed.
