Newark Area Tour (A Coach Trip in Newark)

"Newark Area Tour" is one of the popular Coach Trips devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Turs.

These excursions are a very good way of finding out some Local History.

This tour is one of the morning trips, enjoyed by all but particularly appreciated by those who would rather not be out all day.

The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre at 9.30am, and is expected back about 2pm.

The format for these trips is that one stays on the coach for almost the whole journey, while Colin gives his inimitable commentary, but about halfway round a stop is made, so that refreshments can be bought.

This particular tour is around the area close to the ancient and historic towns of Newark and Southwell, on the edge of Sherwood Forest.

Newark is on the the Roman road known as the Fosse Way, where it crosses the River Trent and the Great North Road. The ruined castle is where King John died, and it has a huge Market Place.

Southwell is famous for its Minster, and for the Bramley apples which were first grown in the town.

The refreshment stop is at Newark, where there are plenty of good tea shops and restaurants.
