Ripon (A Coach Trip in Ripon)

“Ripon” is a Coach Trip devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These excursions are a most enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

Ripon is a small but very historic cathedral city in North Yorkshire, with an outstanding cathedral which includes a rare Anglo-Saxon crypt, created by the great churchman St. Wilfrid in the 7th century.

The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre at 8am, and is due back about 9.30pm.

Colin will be giving his inimitable commentary on the way, bringing to life the fascinating places that the coach passes.

Then in Ripon Colin will be leading a Guided Walk, pointing out lots of places of interest, including Ripon Cathedral, the large Market Place with its 90 foot obelisk, the Ripon Prison and Police Museum and the Canal Basin, the Northernmost point on England’s canal network.

He will also be discussing the ancient function of the Wakeman, who has sounded his horn every night for 1100 years, to assure the citizens that they are in safe hands.
