Rufford Abbey (A Coach Trip in Rufford Abbey)

“Rufford Abbey” is a Coach Trip devised and led by Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours, the well known Blue Badge Guide.

These strolls are a most enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

Rufford Abbey is a very attractive country park in Nottinghamshire, in the area of Sherwood Forest known as the Dukeries.

The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in the centre of Leicester at 8am, and is expected back around 8pm.

The Abbey was founded in the 12th century, but largely demolished in Henry VIII’s time. But there are impressive remains of the church, and an impressive house was built on the site in the Jacobean period.

Also on the site are a craft centre, art gallery and café, while of course the whole park is very suitable for informal strolling.

Colin will be giving his usual commentary along the way, bringing to life the fascinating places that the coach passes.

After leaving Rufford Abbey, there will be a visit to Matlock Bath, the popular riverside town in Derbyshire.
