Market Hill (Maldon)

Market Hill is one of the main streets in the delightful old maritime town of Maldon in Essex.

It runs from the High Street at the top of the hill in the town centre, down to the bridge over the River Blackwater at Fullbridge, one of the outlying settlements which in mediaeval times became part of Maldon.

At the corner of the High Street is the former St. Peter's Church tower, which now houses the splendid Maeldune Centre as well as Dr. Plume's Library.

A little way down the hill is the Congregational Chapel, where Dr. Bilio was the preacher.

Several of the larger houses have belvederes on their roofs, so that merchants could watch for their vessels to approach up the tidal river.
