St. Leonard`s Church (Hythe)

St. Leonard`s Church is the parish church of the historic town of Hythe in Kent.

It stands on the hillside overlooking the town and the sea.

The chancel dates from about 1200, and is approached by several steps from the nave. It has a triforium as well as a clerestory. The vaulted roof was the work of John Loughborough Pearson in the mid 19th century.

Beneath the chancel is a huge collection of human bones, removed from the churchyard centuries ago to make room for new burials. The only other example of this is at Rothwell in Northamptonshire.
