St. Mary`s Church (Attleborough)

St. Mary`s Church is the parish church of the small town of Attleborough in Norfolk.

There was a Norman church on the site, fragments of which remain behind the splendid late 15th century chancel screen, notable for its vaulting and paintings of saints.

The earlier building was replaced in the 14th century by monks of the Holy Trinity, who built a new church in the Decorated style.

There is a partially restored mural on the West wall, and traces of a St. Christopher wall painting on the North wall.

The pyramid in the churchyard is over the grave of Lawyer Brooke, a solicitor and amateur Egyptologist. He believed that only by being buried beneath a pyramid could happiness in the afterlife be ensured.
