Ingatestone

Ingatestone is a small town in Essex, 5 miles from Brentwood.

It is situated on the Great Road, the Roman road that ran from London to Colchester.

St. Edmund and St. Mary Church, of partly Norman date, has a handsome brick tower.

The High Street has a fine collection of buildings from the 18th century and earlier.

Ingatestone Hall, dating from the 16th century, is on the site of the manor of Barking Abbey. It has been in the hands of the Petre family for centuries. The hall mounts exhibitions of local interest.

Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Ingatestone for groups.
