Flatford

Flatford is a location in Suffolk, beside the River Stour on the opposite bank from Essex.

This place is an important stop on any tour of Constable Country.

It is famous for Flatford Mill, a rebuilding of the watermill owned by the father of John Constable, the outstanding landscape painter, who was born at nearby East Bergholt in 1776.

Flatford Mill and Willy Lott's Cottage both belong to the National Trust, having been presented to the nation in 1928.

It was here that Constable set "The Haywain".
