Guided Busway for Cambridgeshire

Approval has been given for what will be the world’s longest guided busway, in Cambridgeshire.

The route totals a little over 15 miles, and speeds are expected to reach 60mph. It is hoped that the busway will relieve congestion on the A14, a notorious stretch of road that adds time to journeys (such as Coach Trips to Essex and Suffolk, and places like Bury St. Edmunds, Saffron Walden and Southwold).

A substantial part of the route follows the line of an abandoned railway. The busway will serve Huntingdon, St. Ives, Swavesey and Cambridge.

On the assumption that nothing goes wrong with funding, it is expected to be open by Christmas 2008.
