Did You Miss the Wells Trip?

My recent Coach Trip to Wells was one of the most successful, in terms of happy faces, that I have ever led.

My wife Anne came on this one, which doesn`t happen very often these days, and she enjoyed it too.

Once we had left St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester as usual, we headed South Westwards and made our coffee stop at the Apple Barn Restaurant at Evesham Country Park, a popular choice.

Then it was on down the motorway and through Bristol, before travelling into Somerset. Passengers were thrilled to be taken through the spectacular Cheddar Gorge, a slight deviation from the striaghtforward route but one that was much appreciated.

As soon as we arrived at Wells, I led the Guided Walk. I always do this first, so that visits can be made later to whatever takes the passengers` fancy.

I was able to show them among other sights the busy Market Place, the lovely moated Bishops Palace, the spectacular West Front of Wells Cathedral and the amazing mediaeval street known as Vicars` Close.

Anne and I visited the cathedral, as I think just about everybody else did, and we had a coffee in a nice tea shop overlooking the market.

On the way back, we made another slight diversion and went through the ancient town of Glastonbury, before stopping for a coffee break at Strensham Services on the way home.

My Visitors` Book always attracts some nice comments, but this time they were a little more special. They included "a great day at Wells, the Cheddar Gorge detour was a big plus", "liked Wells very much", "Cheddar and Glastonbury an added pleasure", "thank you Colin, interesting as ever", "a wonderful day out - have learnt such a lot", "I have been coming on these trips for over thirteen years, and you are still springing surprises on me - please keep doing so", "Colin`s narrative was so interesting and made my day all the more enjoyable", "I thought the cathedral was beautiful, inside and out, a very interesting Guided Walk again" and "a lovely day out for our maiden trip".

Whew!

If you like the idea of a trip including a Guided Walk, the next few that you can book on are Lancaster, Portsmouth, Leominster and Maldon.
