United Reformed Chapel (Wigston Magna)

The United Reformed Chapel in Wigston Magna, to the South of Leicester, is a splendid building on one of the town's main streets.

It is situated on Long Street, the street that leads from the present shopping area to All Saints Church.

The chapel was formerly Congregational, which is the case with the majority of United Reformed buildings.

It was built in 1731, and rebuilt in a classical style in 1841.

The congregation, however, was formed in the 17th century, when they were known as Independents. Before their chapel was built, they were allowed to use the mediaeval St. Wistans Church.

In the small forecourt is a striking monument to William Pochin, who died in 1850.
