St. Ann`s Gate (Salisbury)

St. Ann`s Gate is an old gateway in the historic cathedral city of Salisbury.

It leads into the enormous Close of the wonderful Salisbury Cathedral from where St. John`s Street becomes Exeter Street.

St. Ann`s Gate was built in the early 14th century, and has above the arch the slightly later Vicars Choral Chapel.

In the room above the gate, George Frederick Handel gave his first performance in England.
