Forbury Gardens (Reading)

Forbury Gardens constitutes a historic urban park at Reading.

It is situated at The Forbury, between the town centre and the ruins of Reading Abbey.

The land was owned by the abbey, and is probably where the castle stood. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century, it was used for sheep grazing, and for cheese fairs in the late 18th century.

Today, there are ornamental gardens, a rose garden, a pond with a fountain, many trees and a banstand.
