All Saints Church (Purleigh)
All Saints Church is the parish church of the Essex village of Purleigh.
A mediaeval church, it has a fine West tower which is made of flint, and banded and chequered. This dates from the 14th century, as does the chancel, with its sedilia and piscina.
The pulpit dates from about 1700.
Lawrence Washington, the great great grandfather of George Washington, first President of the United States, was Purleigh`s Rector from 1623 to 1643. He was buried at Maldon.
