All Souls College (Oxford)

All Souls is one of the colleges of the world famous Oxford University.

It is situated in the High Street (known as "The High").

All Souls was founded by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Henry Chichele, in 1438, for the education of priests and lawyers and to pray for the souls of all who died in the wars against the French. There are no undergraduates, being exclusively for Fellows.

The main buildings along the High date from 1441. The entrance gatehouse remains, restored by Gilbert Scott.

The Great Quad is the work of Nicholas Hawksmoor, started in 1715.
