Oakham Station (Oakham)

[An image showing Oakham Station]Oakham Station stands at the end of the High Street in Oakham, the county town of Rutland.

The line is a very useful one, linking Oakham with Birmingham, Hinckley, Leicester and Melton Mowbray in one direction, and Stamford, Peterborough, Ely, Cambridge and Stansted Airport in the other.

It was originally built by the Syston and Peterborough Railway, linking the lines from London that start at St. Pancras and Kings Cross.

The signal box was used by the Hornby comany as the basis for their models in several brands, including Airfix.
