All Saints Church (Northampton)

All Saints is one of the splendid churches in the old market town of Northampton.

There was a mediaeval church here, but it was burned down in the disastrous fire of 1675 which destroyed much of the town. Only the tower survived.

The church was swiftly rebuilt, between 1676 and 1680, by the estimable Henry Bell of Kings Lynn.

There is a highly visible pink stone portico, added in 1701, on the parapet of which is a statue of Charles II. Inside the portico is a memorial to John Brailes, who lived in three centuries and died at the age of 126.
