Monmouth Castle (Monmouth)

Monmouth Castle now consists of only a scanty ruin, in the old town of Monmouth.

It was built in the 12th century, as one of a chain of border forts.

Henry V, often known as Henry of Monmouth, was born at the castle in 1388.

Next door to the remains of the castle is the impressive Castle House.
