St. Michael`s Church (Markfield)

St. Michael`s is the parish church of the Leicestershire village of Markfield, on the edge of Charnwood Forest.

It dates back to 1215, and the tower, with its short spire, is of the Decorated period. There were extensions, by Daniel Knight in 1826 and by William Millcan in 1855.

The South aisle marks the full extent of the mediaeval church.

John Wesley preached at this church on thirteen occasions.

The cast iron gates to the churchyard were erected in the 1820s.
