Christ Church Spitalfields (London)

Christ Church Spitalfields is one of the most spectacular of London churches.

It is situated in Commercial Street, on the corner of Fournier Street, where the City meets the East End.

The architect of Christ Church was Nicholas Hawksmoor, and it was built between 1714 and 1729 as one of the Fifty New Churches commanded by Queen Anne.

The West front, with its classical portico, stands back above steps overlooking Commercial Street.

This is the heart of Jack the Ripper country, all the ghastly murders being committed close to here
