Leominster Priory (Leominster)

The Priory Church of St. Peter and St. Paul is a very fine church, now the parish church, in the Herefordshire market town of Leominster.

It is a former Benedictine priory church, set in a pleasant churchyard a few minutes walk away from the town centre.

Part of the church dates back to the Norman period, the nave dating to about 1130. There is an excellent Norman West doorway.

The priory was originally founded by Earl Leofric.

There is a ducking stool in the North aisle. This was last used in 1809, to duck Jenny Pipes, sometimes known as Jane Curran. It is one of only two ducking stools in a church, the other being at Warwick.
