Kinver Rock Houses (Kinver)

The Kinver Rock Houses are a collection of dwellings in caves at Kinver in Staffordshire.

They are carved into a red sandstone cliff overlooking Kinver. The rock is sometimes known locally as Holy Austin, after a hermit who is said to have lived there.

The first reference is in the 18th century, when a traveller caught in a storm on Kinver Edge took shelter with a family there.

There were eleven families living in the Rock Houses in 1861, and some continued to be occupied until the mid 20th century.

Today, the site is managed by the National Trust, and some of the houses may be visited.
