Britannia Centre (Hinckley)

[An image showing Britannia Centre]The Britannia Centre is an indoor shopping centre in the Leicestershire market town of Hinckley.

Its main entrance is in Castle Street, the main shopping street, which on market days is busy with market stalls.

There is also an entrance from the associated car park, the main one in the town.

The name Castle Street refers to the Norman castle which was built here in William I’s time, after the Conquest in the 11th century, to overawe the local English. Nothing is left of the building, but part of the moat is now used as an ornamental lake.

The Castle Street entrance to the Britannia Centre is used as the starting point for some of Colin Crosby’s Guided Walks.
