Mols Coffee House (Exeter)

Mols Coffee House is probably the most photographed building in the ancient cathedral city of Exeter. It stands in a corner of Exeter Cathedral close, beside St. Martins Church.

It is a black and white timber framed house, bearing the date 1596. The top storey, with a Dutch gable, was added in 1885.

The name comes from an Italian gentleman, Thomas Mol, who once occupied the premises.

Mols Coffee House is famous as the habitual meeting place for the famous Devon sea dogs, notably Francis Drake, Walter Raleigh and John Hawkins.

Today it houses a jewellers.
