Old Lighthouse (Dungeness)

The Old Lighthouse is an unusual attraction at Dungeness on the Southern tip of Kent.

There has been a lighthouse at this treacherous point since 1615. One year over a thousand sailors lost their lives here.

The original lighthouse was replaced in1792, and this continued in use until 1904. It has now been converted into flats.

The Old Lighthouse, circular and built of brick, can be visited. Its 167 steps give fine views to sea.

The present lighthouse was built in 1959, and rises to 130 feet.
