Dixon`s Chimney (Carlisle)

Dixon`s Chimney is a fascinating structure in Carlisle.

It is situated in Shaddongate.

The chimney is 270 feet high, and was part of Shaddongate Mill, which was built by Peter Dixon in 1836.

Its original height was 306 feet, and it was the tallest cotton mill chimney ever constructed.

Because of structural problems, the decorative stone capping was removed in the 1950s.
