Norsey Wood Local Nature Reserve (Billericay)

Norsey Wood Local Nature Reserve is a heavily wooded area on the outskirts of Billericay in Essex.

The entrance is in Outwood Common Road.

It consists of traditionally coppiced ancient woodland, and is a remnant of the great forest which once covered the whole of Essex.

The wood is a site of Special Scientific Interest and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

It was in Norsey Wood that the surviving members of the Peasants` Revolt were finally crushed and massacred in 1381.
