North Bar (Beverley)

North Bar is an impressive gateway in the delightful old Yorkshire market town of Beverley.

It is the only survivor of five gateways into the town. Each was associated with a drawbridge over the deep wide ditch which encircled Beverley.

North Bar was built in 1409, and is one of the earliest examples of English brickwork. It is still used by traffic.
