St. Marys Church (Benfleet)

St. Mary's is the parish church of Benfleet in Essex.

It is a large church that largely dates from the 14th century, although there is a Norman doorway.

It has a large tower with a shingle spire, and a pretty timber porch.

The churchyard stands on the site of the fort raised in the 9th century by the Danish leader Hasten, and destroyed by the English under Alfred.
