Whipsnade

Whipsnade is a village in Bedfordshire, 3 miles from Dunstable.

Whipsnade Zoo is run by the Zoological Society of London, whose more famous attraction is London Zoo. It was opened in 1931, to allow animals to roam more freely than in most zoos. Today it houses more than 3000 animals, and has been very successful in breeding rare species.

The Whipsnade Lion is cut in chalk in the hillside.
