Skelton

Skelton, properly Skelton-on-Ure, is a hamlet in North Yorkshire, 2 miles from Boroughbridge.

It is on the River Ure.

Newby Hall is an exceptionally fine Queen Anne house with fine proportions. It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and started in 1705 for mine-owner Sir Edward Blackett. Robert Adam was later employed to enlarge the house to show off sculptures, paintings and other treasures. and Thomas Chippendale made some of the furniture.

The outstanding gardens slope down to the River Ure and cover 25 acres.

Christ the Consoler Church was completed in 1872 as a memorial to Lady Mary Vyner`s son.
