Ripley

Ripley is a delightful village in North Yorkshire, 3 miles from Harrogate.

Ripley Castle dates back to the 15th century, but most of today`s castle was rebuilt in the 16th century. The original gatehouse survives. Oliver Cromwell stayed at the castle on the night before the Battle of Marston Moor.

The village at the castle gates was rebuilt by Sir William Amcotts Ingilby in the style of a village he had seen in France.

All Saints church is in the Decorated and Perpendicular styles, and there is a very ancient weeping cross in the churchyard. The church replaced an earlier one undercut by the River Nidd in the 14th century.
