Murton
Murton is a village in County Durham, 6 miles from Durham.
The village was originally a rural agricultural settlement called Morton, until the 19th century discovery of coal beneath the fields. This led to the establishment of Murton Colliery, transforming the area.
Today, the site of the slag heaps left by the colliery is the retail outlet Dalton Park.
