Kirkharle

Kirkharle is a hamlet in Northumberland, 2 miles from Kirkwhelpington.

It is beside a stream which is a tributary of the River Wansbeck.

Lancelot "Capability" Brown was born here in 1716. He was baptised in the attractive little St. Wilfrid`s Church, which was rebuilt in the 154th century.

The farm where he worked in his youth now has craft workshops, shops and a tea room.

A stone monument is to Robert Loraine, who died at the hands of Scots raiders in 1483.
