Haydock

Haydock is a small industrial town in Merseyside, formerly Lancashire, 4 miles from St. Helens.

It is roughly halfway between Liverpool and Manchester.

The area once supported many coal mines. At Wood Pit in 1878, 189 men and boys were killed in an underground explosion.

Haydock Park is a well known and well appointed racecourse, the premier course in North West England. The course is in the grounds of Haydock Lodge.
