Chippenham

Chippenham is a thriving market town in Wiltshire, 12 miles from Bath and on the River Avon. It was an important centre in Saxon times.

St. Andrew`s Church has a tower and spire dating from 1633.

The Old Yelde Hall was built in the 16th century. Timber framed, it was formerly the town hall and is now a museum.

Maud Heath left money for a causeway in 1474, and there is an 1838 statue of her.

It was at Chippenham in 1960 that 21 year old Eddie Cochran was killed in a taxi crash, and his friend Gene Vincent was seriously injured.
