Burley

Burley is a very pretty Hampshire village in the New Forest and is some way away from the major roads.

As with some of the other forest villages, the local ponies wander around with impunity.

A house in the centre of the village was the home in the 1950s of the self proclaimed white witch Sybil Leek. Her presence led to coach loads of visitors from such places as Portsmouth, Southampton and Bournemouth and eventually London. Sybil was not the first person to regret her fame, and emigrated to America.

The village, however, has seized on her former presence and there are now several tourist orientated businesses with witchcraft themes. Among these are "A Coven of Witches", a gift shop operating in her former home, and the Black Cat Tea Rooms opposite.

St. John the Baptist Church was built in the 19th century on a site given by a local landowner.
