Brooksby

Brooksby is a deserted village site in Leicestershire, 5 miles from Melton Mowbray.

It is situated on the ridgeway which links Leicester with Melton Mowbray, overlooking the River Wreake.

Brooksby Hall is now the county`s agricultural college, and was the birthplace in 1592 of the notorious George Villiers, whose intimate friend James I created him Duke of Buckingham.

St. Michael and All Angels Church, mostly in the Perpendicular style, stands within the grounds. It contains Villiers family memorials, and one to the First World War Admiral Earl Beatty of Brooksby and the North Sea.

Humps and bumps denote the sites of village houses and streets.
