Braunston-in-Rutland
Braunston-in-Rutland is a picturesque village in Rutland, 2 miles from Oakham.
All Saints Church dates back to the 12th century, and has mediaeval wall paintings.
In the churchyard is an enigmatic stone. Obviously female, it seems to be a Mother Goddess, presumably Anglo Saxon or even earlier. It had at some point been used as a doorstep, in a clear sign of deliberate disrespect.
There is a pretty Village Green.
