Belsay

Belsay is a village in Northumberland, 5 miles from Ponteland.

Belsay Hall was built in the 19th century, based on the classical designs which the owner, Sir Charles Monck, had admired in Greece.

Belsay Castle, built in the 14th century, is a pele tower with later additions. It was the family home until the hall was built.

The two sites are linked by the unexpected and beautiful Quarry Garden.

The Belsay estate is managed by English Heritage.
