Stamford and St. Martins (A Guided Walk in Stamford)

"Stamford and St. Martins" is a Guided Walk around the outstanding Lincolnshire town of Stamford, devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These strolls are an excellent way of soaking up some Local History.

Stamford is probably the finest stone-built town in England, and certainly one of the country's showplaces. In 1967, it was designated England's first Conservation Area.

The starting point for this walk is Red Lion Square, outside the HSBC Bank.

During the walk, Colin will be discussing several key parts of Stamford's history, including its extraordinary past as a university town, and famous people with local connections, including Sir Malcolm Sargent and John Clare.

There will also be a chance to view the grave of Leicester-born Daniel Lambert at St. Martins Church, and the rare gallows sign of the George Hotel, as well as the view that includes St. Marys Church, said by Sir Walter Scott to be the finest between London and Edinburgh.
