Weekend in Norfolk

My wife Anne and I had a weekend in Norfolk recently.

As I`m sure I have said before, this is a rare occurence and very precious. We are both busy in different ways, and having two or three days free at the same time doesn`t happen very often.

We stayed for the weekend in the village of Mattishall, with my daughter Angela, her husband Nigel and daughters Kirsty and Sarah-Beth. That was great, too, as I don`t get to see them very often.

On the Friday evening, we went out for a walk, with their dog as well, across the fields, passing the old parish church at Mattishall Burgh.

On the Saturday, we went into Dereham, and had a look at St. Withburga`s Well in the churchyard.

Later on, we went to Castle Acre, and looked at the very impressive ramparts of the castle, the church with its mediaeval screen paintings and the ruins of the priory.

On the Sunday morning, we attended a service at the parish church in Mattishall, which appears to be thriving.

All in all, it was a very nice and relaxing weekend.
