Norman Wisdom
Norman Wisdom, the very popular English comedian, has died aged 95.
Many words have been written in the last few days in tribute to him, but perhaps I can add an anecdote of my own.
When I was a young assistant cinema manager (around 1965), I had to spend a couple of days at Ipswich, where the refurbished Gaumont Cinema was having a gala reopening. Norman was making a guest appearance.
After the show, he insisted on speaking to all the staff individually (projectionists, usherettes etc) and thanking them for their part in the evening.
Norman Wisdom was probably the nicest person I ever met in showbiz.
