Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson, one of the biggest stars in the history of popular music, has died, apparently from a heart attack.
Millions of words have been written about him, but the plain fact is that he was loved by millions and certainly admired by millions.
He came to prominence when a mere five years old, as lead singer of his family group the Jackson Five, and later carved out a career as a singer and dancer.
His dancing was quite superb, and I personally always felt that this was the aspect of his talent that stood out above the others.
Michael Jackson`s album "Thriller" is the biggest selling album of all time, and he had many big hit records.
Unfortunately, he was as well known for his erratic behaviour as for his enormous talent. Allegations of child abuse surfaced a couple of times, but he was cleared on each occasion. His own childlike demeanour probably stemmed from his lack of a proper childhood. While everybody else was being a child, he was getting rich and famous.
The reason for his sudden death is unclear. However, the mind can only boggle at the stress involved in this 50-year-old man`s contract to give fifty concerts in a short time, having been effectively retired for years.
It seems appropriate this time to comment "Rest in Peace, at last".
