Old St. Martins (A Guided Walk in Leicester)

“Old St. Martins” is a Guided Walk in Old Leicester, devised and led by the well-known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These strolls are a most enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

The walk starts at the Cathedral Fountain.

“Old St. Martins” is the area close to St. Martin’s Church, one of the five mediaeval churches in Leicester’s Old Town, which is now Leicester Cathedral.

Among the historic buildings viewed along the way are the 600-year-old Guildhall; Wygstons House; the old Grammar School; St. Nicholas Church and the Jewry Wall.

Also along the route are the site of the White Boar (later Blue Boar) Inn, where Richard III spent his last night before going out to the battle near Market Bosworth, where he was killed; and of the Grey Friars, where his body was laid to rest.

This walk will be of great interest to all those who have an interest in Leicester’s long history.
