Waterside Loughborough (A Guided Walk in Loughborough)

“Waterside Loughborough” is a Guided Walk devised and led by Colin Crosby, as part of his Waterside Walks series, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These strolls are an enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

The starting point for this walk is the Cedars Hotel. This is in Cedar Road, off Leicester Road, to the South of Loughborough.

During the walk, the little Hermitage Stream and the Wood Brook will come into view on a number of occasions, while a significant part of the route is beside the canal.

In fact there are two canals. The Loughborough Navigation was constructed from the river Trent, so that coal could be brought from the Nottinghamshire coalfield. This was so successful that another was built, the Leicester Navigation, which was effectively an extension. There is a junction between the two.

Charnwood Water itself is a man-made lake which is now used for recreational purposes.

Other walks in Loughborough include “Loughborough”, “Mediaeval Loughborough”, “Victorian Loughborough”, “Street Names of Loughborough”, “Hidden Loughborough”, “Looking Up in Loughborough”, “Waterside Charnwood”, “Waterside Loughborough and Barrow-upon-Soar” and “The Outwoods”.

And others in the Waterside Walks series include “Waterside Abbey Park”, “Waterside Aylestone”, “Waterside Belgrave”, “Waterside Birstall”, “Waterside Charnwood”, “Waterside Glenhills”, “Waterside Glen Parva”, “Waterside Hinckley”, “Waterside Leicester”, “Waterside London”, “Waterside Loughborough and Barrow-upon-Soar”, “Waterside Market Harborough”, “Waterside Mountsorrel”, “Waterside Quorn and Barrow-upon-Soar”, “Waterside Thurmaston” and “Waterside West End”.
